Camco 11553 magnesium anode rod
- Heating Elements (Qty: 2)
Unlike our heating elements specially made for brewing, most heating elements are normally used in electric water heaters that also have a sacrificial magnesium anode installed (shown in picture). The anode's sole purpose is to oxidize first, thereby protecting the heating element base from rusting. Brewing kettles do not have an anode so over time the heating elements with an iron base will rust over time. Some brewers will install a sacrificial magnesium anode in the side of their kettle to combat this issue. See this forum thread for some example installations and instructions. We do not use sacrificial anodes on our setup but instead recommend using heating elements specifically made for brewing.
