Chilled conical fermenters are used to control the temperature of fermentation through an integrated temperature controller. Simply use the up/down buttons to set your desired temperature.
More advanced units are cooled by simply plugging them into an outlet, while others may require chilling through an ice bath in a cooler. Some advanced conicals include both integrated heating/cooling systems for the ultimate in flexibility.
These advanced conicals measure the actual wort temperature instead of the ambient air as wort undergoing active fermentation can easily measure 5-6 degrees above the desired temperature in typical home fermenter sizes.
