Used to fasten the heating element to the kettle wall.
While it is more correct to use an NPS (straight thread) locknut (shown in picture) to match the NPS threads on the heating element, given the low number of threads that engage many brewers are finding that they've had success with an NPT (tapered thread) locknut instead.
