There are various times during the brewing process where we need to measure temperature outside of the kettles (such as when taking sparge samples or after chilling the wort). We use a digital probe thermometer to do this.
A better digital probe thermometer that reads slightly faster than the entry level Taylor 9842 is the ThermoWorks 600D Super-Fast Waterproof Digital Pocket Thermometer (shown in picture). For the best thermometer (the one we use and recommend), see the ThermoWorks Thermapen.
