When higher than 8 ppm of dissolved oxygen is required, pure oxygen is the only choice. Since 100% oxygen is used (instead of atmosphere with only 21% oxygen) higher levels of dissolved oxygen can be achieved than with aeration through agitating rods or atmosphere based pump systems.
